It’s been more than 2.5 years since I last did my eyebrow embroidery. A beauty process where I go for a semi-permanent filling of the eyebrow for people cursed with sparse eyebrow hair like me.
Note : Eyebrow Embroidery is a 3D cosmetic eyebrow feathering is a semi permanent technique using colour pigment drawn onto the skin giving you natural looking eyebrows. The technique used is natural feathering of hair like strokes creating a beautifully designed brow.
In my past experiences, having done this beauty “treatment” a handful of times already, I have always been comfortable going to Bluunis (previously Ultimate Impressions). Up until recently…
An old friend of mine, Vicky, has mastered this process in recent years. She is offering Eyebrow Embroidery services on her own, independent of any beauty salons.
She is also doing her tattoo apprenticeship, and have a real eye for drawing, design and is extremely detailed. Look at one of her portrait sketch she did recently below. Ah-mazing!
2D Eyebrow vs 3D Eyebrow Embroidery
These terms may be confusing.
You see, over the years, eyebrow embroidery technique has advanced a lot. Back in the day, our mom’s day, they only have the option of tattoo. Which over time, turns greenish blue on your skin and look truly horrendous.
Then, in the last couple of decades or so, you get the boom of eyebrow embroidery with the introduction of Ultimate Impressions‘ Brownaissance in Malaysia.
2D Eyebrow Embroidery, also known as the Normal Eyebrow Embroidery technique basically makes it look like you drew your eyebrow with eyebrow pencil, filling in the whole eyebrow instead of strokes. Except it’s semi-permanent and you don’t have to do it everyday when you put your makeup on.
And then, fast forward to today, the embroidery technique advanced some more for people with super sparse eyebrow hair (like me) to have something a little more natural looking, instead of looking like I drew my eyebrows in with a eyebrow pencil. Then, from 2D / Normal Eyebrow Embroidery, you now have 3D Eyebrow Embroidery.
3D Eyebrow Embroidery actually creates feather strokes that mimics the actual fine hairs of your eyebrow, rather than filling it in as you would with an eyebrow pencil. This makes the effect look more realistic when you go au naturel without makeup.
Look closely at the photo above – see the fine lines of the eyebrow? From far, it really looks like real hair and not embroidered strokes.
There’s really no right or wrong, good or bad. It truly depends on what you’re looking for, how much or how little eyebrow hair you have and what you want your brows to look like.
Although, most beauticians do the 3D feathering technique, rather than the Normal 2D style these days.
Just a note – if you come across Groupon or any other beauticians offering 4D, 5D or 6D Eyebrow Embroidery, don’t be fooled.
There is Normal 2D and 3D Eyebrow Embroidery. That’s it. There is NO SUCH THING as anything beyond 3D Eyebrow Embroidery.
6D Nano Korean Eyebrow Embroidery? Come on.
Think about it. A normal human eye cannot see beyond 3D. So, how the hell can you see 6D eyebrows?
Eyebrows by HueVicky
One of the biggest selling point for Vicky’s eyebrow embroidery, is not only does she ensure the eyebrows fit your face shape and brow bones, she promises NO PAIN!
A lot of my friends were afraid of the pain for eyebrow embroidery, so they refused to go get their eyebrows done. Vicky has promised a painless procedure.
How? She takes her time. S
he applies the numbing cream, and give it sufficient time for it to fully numb your brows. Unlike other beauty salon who leave the numbing cream on for only 10-15 mins (so they can get you in and out quick, for the next appointment), Vicky takes her time. The numbing cream is set for anywhere between 30 – 60 minutes.
When she starts working on my eyebrow embroidery, I can honestly say – I really don’t feel any pain at all. Pressure, but no pain!
It was such a pleasant experience feeling absolutely NO PAIN at all. So different from all the other eyebrow embroidery I have ever done in Bluunis over the years!
Although, I have to point out that I actually like the pain of needles on my skin. Hahahah. Yes, I’m weird like that. 😛
Another great thing about Vicky is her patience and detail workmanship. She takes her time, drawing your eyebrow before the start of the embroidery. She will make all the corrections and symmetry (using her iPhone to check) to ensure it’s perfect before she begins using the needle and ink.
Anyways, here are some sample eyebrow and eyeliner work Vicky has done. Click to view enlarged image.
For more pictures, check out her Facebook Album here.
Other than Eyebrows, Vicky also does eyeliners.
She has her own style for upper eyeliner that looks really natural. We’re not covering that in this post, but here are some sample pictures.
So natural looking, tempting me to do it, but I have a phobia of needles near my eyeballs. Eek!
